Justin Schaffer op weg naar een grote carriere

Zandvoort, The Netherlands, August 23rd, 2009
Justin Schaffer is on his way to become a great Longdriver
A great career as a professional Longdriver seems in store for Justin Schaffer. This student in ‘Advanced Technology’ from Enschede impressed the audience at the finals of the DeHeeg National Longdrive Competition, that was played on August 23rd, the last day of the Euro Longdrivers event.
Nine competitors qualified for this championship after a heavy battle at sixteen preliminary rounds throughout the country.
Possible most joyful was the fact that lots of young talent could gain from the opportunities that were offered by Euro Longdrivers.
All the time more young golfers are attracted to the most spectacular part of their favorite sport. Take 16 year old Daan Pas. This talent asked beforehand if he could get extra meters because of his age.
That was not the case but it turned out that Daan did not need this extra help at all. He qualified for the finals easily with a distance of 307 meters.
The longest distance in the first round was hit by Belgian Patrick Vielvoye with 320 meters.
The competitors had the wind in their back for the first time during the whole event and this factor made really long distances possible.
Justin Schaffer suffered from a hernia, but scored a incredible 366 meters in the fourth round.
In the finals he beat the Swedish veteran Jesper Hostrup (358 meters) with a unequalled 361 meters.
The best compliment possible for Justin was made by legendary Longdriver Pat Dempsey, who presented the trophies: “I’m glad you didn’t compete yesterday at the Continents Cup because you would have kicked some American ass.”
The complete results of the DeHeeg National Longdrive Competition 2009:

The Euro Longdrive organization may look back on a fantastic Longdrive event that attracted many spectators.
The ELD RIWAL European Open 2009 offered a lot of excitement and had a surprise winner: Antti Saleva from Finland.
Highlight was the JLG Continents Cup 2009 between the best Longdrivers from North America versus the giants from Europe. It was a close battle that in the very end was won by the Americans.
